Psy families Empty Psy families

Post by Guest Thu Feb 24, 2011 1:24 pm

From what I`ve read so far, Psy families are functional units - parents make business agreements, create children of specific designation, take care of them together and then separate when the child grows up. But they mostly have one child per parent (since genes are so important for them), if they are satisfied with final `product`.
Then how come Sienna and Toby look and feel like human children, not Psy? Their love for each other is real. I know that their mother was not a perfect Psy, but do they have the same father? I`m not sure he has been mentioned anywhere in the series. Both Sienna and Toby are cardinals. Aren`t Psy supposed to want just one child, and if so, why hadn`t their mother stopped with her?
Have any ideas?

Well, the mother killed herself & I think she screamed she wanted to "be free" when doing so. Thus, she was always different & wouldn't "accept" Silence like others. Their father (and whether they have the same one) has never been mentioned. Also, they feel like human children because they are not under Silence. Sienna used to be very cold, but the change with her happened once she broke it & joined SnowDancer (and it's also from being around Hawke, whom messes up her conditioning, ect.) That's all we really know at this point...until May/June!

And I think it was also mentioned that the mother was a Cardinal too.

I don't think it has ever been mentioned that Psy just want one child. It all depends on the value to the family units. Anthony has at least two children - Faith and her half-brother. We also saw in BbF? a Psy family that had two children. I'm more interested in the age difference between Sienna and Toby. As far as we know they are full siblings which may suggest that 'someone' saw Sienna's ability and contracted for a second child. Could it be Ming? I wouldn't put it past him to contract two people to have children just to see if their genetics would produce the fabled X-psy. He could even be the father or a direct relative. affraid Inquiring minds want to know!

And that's the beauty of Nalini's universe. It's wide open with possibilities. Smile

I don't know in which book, I think Judd's, they mentioned that Psy don't do thinks someone would ever remember. They're just ... there.
The only thing how they can't be forgotten is to give their DNA to their children so there is a part still living in them.
That's why they're the biggest Psy-Changeling Race in the world.
And of course, they all hope for strong children so their family gets more power.

Yup, it has never been mentioned that Psy-families do only want one child. In fact it seems 'better' to have, say, two children. One works for the mother's company, the other one for the fathers. It's just about money and power.

I mean, what's the reason why anyone would want only one child? Probably that they don't have enough money to care for it - which means that you actually have to car, Psy don't. Or that you simply don't love your partner - which means you have to love someone. Or that you don't like sex - But since when do Psy care about what they "like" or "dislike". It's only about what they think is better for them. Many children = Much money, power etc.

One could argue that it's about the control. If you have, lets say, 30 children it might get hard to controll all of them. Buuut the Psy have Silence. They don't really need anything to make sure their children behave.

Still I wonder how Siennas mom felt about her kids. About all of it, not just her family but the whole Silence-thing. It's only been said that she couldn't live it, but what? Feeling nothing, but STILL feeling? (Like when you have major depression and feel that you don't feel) Or feeling too much? Not fitting in and panicking because someone might find out? But then - If she felt, why did she kill herself? Wouldn't she guess that this might put her family in danger?

And theeen, which really bothers me: Sienna said that Ming wanted to rehabiltate all of them because she was too strong. But everyone believes that it was because of the suicide. Could it be that her mom was perfectly silent (or at least silent enough) and was forced to kill herself by Ming via, don't know, some Psy-power? (So no one would wonder why Ming let 'em go the rehabilitation)

I guess family is business with posive and negative effects. You have those kids, you can form them from their birth on, you can decide which books they read, which things they have to research, whatever. But if one of them is flawed, the counsil looks at you differently. They consider you are flawed as well, let M-Psy check if you have some genetic probs etc. Dunno, I'd rather be one of the Forgotten.. Too tough not to be loved when you're a toddler.

Uuh, right! I think we need .. Okay, I'm making a family tree, but I'm kinda confused right now, so Sienna is Toby's sister and Marley is Walkers kid, yes? But we don't know who the mother is except that she's gone.. Then DR and SD have their treaty, Sienna has this teacher-thing with Sascha.. Okay, that's the family, I guess. xD

Psy families Family11

Riight.. Toby had some E-Psy-genes, so it might be that his mother had that, too. Which would be a perfect reason for Hawke to know about them, except that I'm not sure why Judd or Walker might have told him. Maybe to explain why the kiddos.. yeah.

So they were there and some SD-wolves found them. They got them to Hawke and then Judd might have said something like "Bro, my sissy's dead." And then Hawke would've said: "Dude, no way! What happened? Suicide by wolf-plan going on here or what?" and then Walker could've said something like: "Nah, man, we just wanted to hang out here, that okay?" and of course Indigo or someone else might have wondered why so they said: "Why? You're psy, you don't grief. You keep going on and do your little not-feeling-thing." So they said: "Yeah, but our sis killed herself, stupid chick. So now the counsil wants to kill us because they think we're all crazy." So Hawke is like "Wait, wait, she killed herself? Damn, bro, seriously? That's really un-psy-y. Excuse my language. Well, why did she do so? I don't believe you. Get lost. or killed." And this would be why Judd or Walker had to tell him about E-Psy.

Damn. I should write a book, look how awesome I wrote that thing down.

And IF Siennas mom really was an empath it might be both. She was silent enough back then (or not, whatever), maybe because she wasn't that a strong empath or something like that and Ming simply used what was there.. The only difference would be that he didn't make everything up. I mean, the counsil said that they don't kill the empaths because they help the psynet, right? So actually he didn't need to kill her, even if she was like Sascha.. might have been even worse if she was because he would have to explain the counsil why he did what he did. And that would mean he had to explain that there was someone stronger than himself. I don't think he likes to talk about weaknesses. - Although it might have worked out for him that way as well because the others, Nikita and so on, thought that if a 17 year old girl is stronger than Ming she is a threat for all of them.. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. *sigh* I will never know until I have all the books xD

Want that ARC, want that ARC.

Patricia, you crack me up! I'm loving the family tree. And we don't know if Sienna & Toby have the same father or not, since I believe he was never in the picture to begin with.

Post by Patricia Wed Mar 09, 2011 6:52 pm

Yeah, I wanted to write something like "mysterios father(s)" but it took to much place xD I really think Sienna and Hawke should get, dunno, 4 books.

AH! Heelp.. what if.. ah!

Judd said he and Sienna have similiar powers.. And we're not quite sure what Walker has, only that it's not as strong as Judd's powers (although that might be untrue.. who knows?). Assuming that the two of them (Judd and Walker) have those powers and Sienna has them as well, her mother might have had them too. (So the parents of the first Lauren-generation were the ones who gave them the DNA and powers). Plus being an e-Psy, she might have killed herself not because she felt, but because she knew she had no other choice:

To live being an E-Psy she needs to feel.
To live being like Judd or Sienna she needs control, she needs Silence (or so she thought). -- Doesn't work together.

But Toby could be E-Psy because his father was (who might or might not be Siennas father as well).

Do we know something about Marley?

Gnn, I really wonder what X-Psy means. If the X refers to something like DNA (XX, XY) or if its symbolising a cross (like two completely different powers crossing each other and creating something new, more powerfull), or if it is simply used because it sounds cool (haha, can see that one. Counsil member 1: Okay, how do we name it? Member 2: What about "The Ultimate Power of Kra'ho?" Member 3: Nah, what about "Mu-Geh" Member 1: The first sounds like its some Marvel-comic, the second like Mu-shu-chicken from [chinese restaurant of your choise]. Member 4: X! Like X-Men! Dat cool, boy! Member 1: NO MARVEL COMICS! Member 4: *concentrates* *kills Member 1* You no like Marvel, jackass? *kicks body* Now you dead, cannot not like Marvel! *looks around* X-Psy it is then, someone not like dat?// Boy, what is it with me that I have those images in my head? xDD)

I wonder what Sienna can do.. maybe she gets all She-Hulk. When I thought about her powers I always thought that they are the reason for Hawke being able to mate with her.. but I have no explanation for that. If she's able to regenerate (and destroy) not only cells but also.. uh, whats the word, psyche? ah, yeah psyche or mind. Yes, if she is able to change our mind and our cells?

Judd can change cells, but he can't get further. He might be able to change certain parts in the brain, but only by changing those cells.. might be that Sienna is able to dig in further. (Well, he can do other things with our minds, but ba programming us.. she could change the whole thing.. can't explain it in English. Mhe.) This way she might "destroy" the walls that hinder Hawke from mating. Maybe it's not that Changelings can't mate two times, but that they shut everyone out, which explains that one:

14. Why isn't Judd Lauren linked psychically to the SnowDancers, as Sascha and Faith are to the Web of Stars?

I can’t answer this without giving away a ginormous spoiler, but I do want to say that I did work out the logic of it beforehand. There is a reason behind it, and it will (hopefully) make complete sense when you read it! - Nalini Singh

Urgh, as I said: Nothing that makes enough sense to be taken seriously in my head. *gnaws on fists*

Have I mentioned that I really need one of those ARCs? xD

Gosh, 3am and I'm contemplating books..

Yeah, I'm thinking "X" doesn't stand for anything in particular but it is just known as that to sound mysterious/ominous. And I'm VERY curious as to why Judd doesn't see the link and what Walker's powers are as well. Soooo many questions, too long to wait for answers.

Okay...you two have opened a door and I am going to walk through it...

The X designation has a slew of possibilities, but here is a question: How is deathly things marked for people to easily identify?

Here is the answer: With an X either with crossbones or in Red ink.

Now, what do we know about Sienna's powers...actual facts that have been openly stated: 1. Ming is less powerful, 2. Judd knows she needs the pain modifiers to stay in control, 3. She destroyed the paintings on a mental flinch so to speak, 4. She is afraid of herself.

Now take all of that and mix at medium speed and what do you get?
A huge helping of "Oh Dear God do NOT piss this girl off!" Razz

She destroyed them with her fists, didn't she? I'm not sure right now, but I think Sascha saw dust on her hands and not everything was destroyed but only a part.. Damnit, wanna read, read, read it now!

Haha, Sienna the pirate. From what Ladyhawke said in her review it's also known that X-Psy don't live longer than till their Midtwenties (pretty bad, since she's now 19.. oh, is this one a plot-bunny I'm seeing here?).

But even if there is more, I don't trust myself with the other reviews (don't want to spoiler myself since I'm going to ge the book soon enough).

OMG, i thought i'd bust a gut. and yes, you are one sick puppy - congratulations.

Ming as a contributing DNA partner.... hmmm. Scarey

And possibly driving Sienna's mother to suicide? Problem with that is she did a big no-no by making her suicide (forgive the pun) splashy. The Psy are supposed to keep their self-exits quiet, and Ming would be very much a proponent of that.

I never considered him making her suicidal. Btw: He is so powerfull, I don't think anyone would be able to kill themselves without him knowing (and approving).

Yup, Ming as a father.. damn, even MY father looks nice compared to that guy. Very Happy
