Songs Like Guild Hunter Empty Songs Like Guild Hunter

Ever so often I hear songs who's lyrics seem like they were written for some of the characters in the Guild Hunter series. This thread is for anyone who has felt the same and can list certain verses of their chosen songs and show how they link to the story. My list is as follows, although it is a work in progress.

Song 1 -- Halo by Beyonce.

Remember those walls I built
Well, baby they're tumbling down
And they didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make up a sound

I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now

It's like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
It's the risk that I'm takin'
I ain't never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace

You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away

Ok, so for me, this clearly is Elena singing about Raphael during the earlier stages of their relationship. Three points I want to make. "Remember those walls I built -- well, baby they're tumbling down." Elena had tried to keep Raphael out of her mind by building mental barriers. Second part, "Every rule I had you breakin' -- It's the risk that I'm takin'" Raphael had mentioned in Angel's Blood that it was a good thing Elena had come to his bed for she already knew too much about them. So in essence, he was breaking rules because of what he was letting slip to her. And third, "Baby I can see your halo -- you know you're my saving grace." When Elena was dying right after Uram was killed, Raphael was there. It might be a stretch, but the ambrosia was like his halo and certainly he was her saving grace.

Song 2 - Breakaway: Kelly Clarkson

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray (I would pray)

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I prayed I could break away

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
And I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I love
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging around revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
Fly away, breakaway

Alright, this song is from Elena's perspective as well. "Trying hard to reach out -- but when I tried to speak out -- felt like no one could hear me." We'd been inundated by Elena's flashbacks as a child when she first realized she was hunter born. And her father especially couldn't accept that. "I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly -- I'll do what it takes 'til I touch the sky." This one needs no translation as we saw what Elena went through learning to fly for the first time. And lastly, "Buildings with a hundred floors, -- Swinging around revolving doors" Clearly that's referring to Archangel Tower. =p

Song 3 - Part of Me: Katy Perry

Days like this I want to drive away
Pack my bags and watch your shadow fade
You chewed me up and spit me out
Like I was poison in your mouth
You took my light, you drained me down
But that was then and this is now
Now look at me

This is the part of me
That you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no
This is the part of me
That you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no
Throw your sticks and your stones, throw your bombs and your blows
But you’re not gonna break my soul
This is the part of me
That you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no

Elena's point of view again but singing to her father. It may have been Raphael when she first met him, but not post Archangel's Consort. "This is the part of me - That you're never gonna ever take away from me" She's hunter born, and Jeffery can't change that no matter how much he tries to ignore it. " Throw your sticks and your stones, throw your bombs and your blows -- But you’re not gonna break my soul." The analogy here works in terms of Jeffery's harsh treatment of her and vile words.

Going to end this here for now as I gather more material. This part of the forum got really quiet after the Archangel Storm discussions was over, let's revive it again.

Songs Like Guild Hunter Empty Re: Songs Like Guild Hunter

Post by Patricia Wed Nov 07, 2012 12:57 am

I absolutely adore that topic, and yes, I think we really should be more active here again. I have some playlists on my computer, one of which is a Nalini Sing playlist. Not sure which of the songs were Guild Hunter and which Psy Changeling songs, so I'll just pick some that I think I picked for the GH series. (Listen to the most of the songs here)

I'll just comment on some of them here:

Runs in the Family by Amanda Palmer is one of those songs that I can see in almost every scene. Elena's upbringing, in some ways, and the crazy angels. Also the vampires. It's one of those end-of-the-movie-director-cast-staff-songs.

I say it runs in the family,
this family that carries me,
to such great lengths,
to open my legs up to anyone who'll have me.
It runs in the family,
I come by it honestly,
do what you want, cause who knows,
it might fill me up. (..)

Me? Well, I'm well.
Well, I mean, I'm in hell.
Well, I still have my health,
at least that's what they tell me.
If wellness is this,
what in hell's name is sickness?
But business is business,
and business runs in the family. (..)

Mary, have mercy. Now, look what I've done,
but don't blame me, because I can't help where I come from.
And running is something that we've always done well,
and mostly I can't even tell what I'm running from.

Vampire Smile by Kyla La Grange isn't a song I like very much when it comes to the "sound", but the lyrics make sense to me.

Baby, I need a friend. But I'm a vampire smile, you'll meet the sticky end.

Palm of your Hand by Ingrid Michaelson is one of the happier songs, I suppose. I like Ingrid Michaelsons voice, and the line "You make me want to be human again" sounds very powerful. It's a Elena and Raphael song, in some ways. But I think I mostly hear this as a P/C song. (Same with Runs in the Family, actually.)

Oh boy you wake me and shake me
I'll break the bullet in my hand
I attack but you fight back
The redder the love the better
You make it all ache
I'm breathing, I'm breathing life again

And oh boy I know boy I need a breakdown
Can you crush me

In the palm of your hand
The palm of your hand
There's nobody else who can
You know you crush me
In the palm of your hand
The palm of your hand
There's nobody else who can
You know you crush me
In the palm of your hand

You make me want to be a human again
Can I be your only human again
You bring me back
You bring me back in pieces in the

Palm of your hand (..)

Hummingbird by Alex Clare is a song I couldn't find a good version of on Youtube, so check this one out instead. It's a lovely song, and I sometimes think that's how the whole whatshername and the vampire who's funny-romance could turn out. (I'll definitely edit this sentence once I'm fully awake. XD)

Like a hummingbird in flight you are. Hovering, hovering near me. As I move near, you fly away.

That line, as many, many others, eminds me of all the things everyone has lost (their humanity, the people they have loved, other 'things') so it's more of a song I'd play at the end of the movie, as a scene-song. (Am I making any sense? XD)

Paradise Lost (as well as City and several others) by Hollywood Undead is a song that reminded me of the vampires who aren't that happy to be enslaved to angels for 100 years. It's self-rightous, angry, and kinda tragic.

Let it all burn
I will burn first
God, I tried, am I lost in your eyes?
Just let me burn
It's what I deserve
God, I've lied, am I lost in your eyes?

So take me and make me
Weaken and save me
This hate you gave me
Keeps saying the same thing

To sing when you hurt, and to sing when you cry
To sing when you live, and to sing when you die
And here at the end, at the end of the hurt
All the pain ain't the same when it's your turn to burn

We're the heart for the heartless
The thoughts for the thoughtless
The lies for the liars
We're the gods of the godless

Summer Rain by I Blame Coco is another song I couldn't find on Youtube. Listen to it here if you want to.

So tell me, have I lost it all? Have I lost my pain? / Punch through a red brick wall, I don't feel a thing.
But to you, it's all the same. Like a hunter only knows what's its prey.
Whatever's mine is yours, we share the blame / Just like the darkness in your mind is blind with shame
So tell me, have you lost it all? Have you changed your name / It's funny how this loneliness can bring you fame.
So, how can I trust you? Love me if you must be fooled. / Here's the mic and here's your cue

Fools in Love by Inara George reminds me of the angels, especially honeypie. I don't know. It's just.. Alas. I still have so many feels when it comes to this song. Lexie x Mark feels, P/C feels, GH feels. All the feels.

Fools in love, are there any other kinds of lovers?
Fools in love, is there any other kind of pain?

Everything you do, everywhere you go now
Everything you touch, everything you feel
Everything you see, everything you know now
Everything you do, you do it for your baby love,
your baby love, your baby love, your baby love

Fools in love, are there any creatures more pathetic?
Fools in love, never knowing when they lost the game.

Ghosts that we knew by Mumford and Sons is a Honor/Dmitri song for me. From his point of view.. and hers. Just listen to it, if you don't know the song yet. Smile

You saw my pain, washed out in the rain
Broken glass, saw the blood run from my veins
But you saw no fault no cracks in my heart
And you knelt beside my hope torn apart
But the ghosts that we knew will flicker from view
And we'll live a long life
So give me hope in the darkness that I will see the light
Cause oh they gave me such a fright
But I will hold as long as you like
Just promise me we'll be alright

I'm in here by Sia.. I haven't found a file on tumblr or youtube, and I can't upload any more music today, but it's a Sorrow song for me. The only YT video I found that isn't a cover is the Gossip Girl scene with Chuck and Blair, where it's playing in the background. (
here) Oh, wait, found a vimeo video here.

I’m in here.
Can anybody see me?
Can anybody help?

I’m in here,
A prisoner of history.
Can anybody help?

Can you hear my call? Are you coming to get me now?
I’ve been waiting for you to come rescue me
I need you to hold all of the sadness I can not…
Live with inside of me

I’m in here.
I’m trying to tell you something.
Can anybody help?

I’m in here.
I’m calling out but you cant hear.
Can anybody help?

Can you hear my call? Are you coming to get me now?
I’ve been waiting for you to come rescue me.
I need you to hold, all of the sadness I can not…
Live with inside of me.

I’m crying out.
I’m backing down.
I am feeling it all.
Stuck inside these walls, tell me there is hope for me.
Is anybody out there listening?

I have to admit that I don't listen to all of those musicians on a regular basis, but yeah.. Well.. AND I think I haven't finished the YT list yet, so if a song I mentioned isn't on it, but some others are.. My bad. ._.
