Me too, I wish it was a whole book. It might have been more interesting than Riaz and Adria lol.

Well, here are a couple little teaser quotes from the two new novellas in Wild Invitation posted a day or two ago on Nalini's blog:

Couple of quotes from WILD INVITATION as we count down to the release date!

(Conversation between Cooper and Grace)

"Your fault you know."
Grace's hand clenched on the edge of the door. "Mine?"
"You did challenge me tonight."
"It wasn't a challenge."
"Don't be a liar now." A slow tease. "I got the message."

- from "Declaration of Courtship"

Cupping her cheek, he bent his head until their foreheads touched. "I'm sorry--I know I'm being difficult," he said, and it was a comment heavy with things unspoken.
- from "Texture of Intimacy"

Oh, Walker!

And Judd!

I should be working, but instead, I had to read the story.

And Aden!

What I am wondering is Aden still being classified with a too low TP?

My guess is Aden is deliberately deceiving others about his abilities, something Walker may have taught him...

Read both the new novellas and liked them both, particularly liked the Walker/Lara novella. Lots of great stuff in there and I loved seeing so much of Judd and of course seeing Hawke and Sienna.

I also really liked hearing what Walker did with the children in the Arrow Squad and how he helped them. I think it was mentioned in KoS or Tangle that Walker had taught Sienna
Spoiler:
to build psychic "vaults" to preserve secrets and memories, helping her preserve her core self that would otherwise have been open to others and it was cool to hear that that was what he did for the children of the Arrow Squad. And, I loved the parts about Aden!

I really loved learning about Walker's interactions with the Arrows as kids. I particularly loved the scenes with Aden in them. Ever since childhood he's been looking after the Arrows. I was also surprised to learn just how mature and mentally stable he was as a child, like he just knew he had to be strong for the others. Before I read Wild Invitation, I considered Aden the 'leader' of the Arrows, now I consider him more of the 'Alpha' of the squad. Smile

I also liked all of the new info on Walker's role as an Arrow mentor. All of those little details are what make me really like the Psy books.

I will say this though... *prepares self for being pelted with rotten vegetables*

I think Nalini Singh should lay off of the romance.

Not all of it, of course, but maybe 75%? I think it's starting to detract from what is really good about the books - character interactions, world-building, glimpses of everyday life, etc. The romance scenes -especially the sex ones- haven't been creative for a while. She's using the same phrases, words, everything is like she has a generic sex-scene written out somewhere with blanks for the names of whoever she is writing about. Well, maybe not that bad, lol. I think she needs to focus on her strengths, somehow rebrand as more PN than R if she can.

My two cents Smile

Methinks I didn't get what you meant. xD

I don't think they'll re evaluate once they were 'categorized', which is why Walker was able to keep his secret, which still confuses me as to what it really is....does it mean he's a high level telepath but somehow deliberately deceives their tests or whatever it it the use to evaluate, so he appears at a lower range...or he's hiding another ability that is so subtle it can't be detected? or just that he can use his telepathy in a totally different way? Surprised

I liked Texture of I. then again I always have a hugeeeee soft spot for the Laurens.

I agree with Nina.

I wanted to like Grace and Cooper. While I won't say their story is specially bad... I guess I was hoping for something more.
I felt like the characters weren't developed enough. Something is missing.
Nalini's stories usually 'speak' to my heart...OK, that was corny, but it's the truth. I always feel an emotional kick with her books, but it didn't happen with Declaration.

I was expecting a submissive, the sweet, unconfrontational one, no, not the noodle heads who can't do a thing for herself, but...gah it's hard to explain.
Again and again it was said about how submissive Grace is, but what I understood is that 'submissive' meant that her wolf had this tendency of whimpering, instinctive throat showing...signs of wolf submission when in front of a more dominant wolf. but as to her personality? give her a gun/change her work description and Grace is no different from Indigo.

I wanted to see what a submissive is...because even dominants are maternal, protective of their young...kindness and generosity aren't dominant exclusive either. Please don't tell me that the only difference between a dominant and a submissive is physical strength? monkey

OK, I guess I have ranted enough. ^^

Now to what I liked about the anthology...Texture of I.
It was a wonderful addition, glimpses of what occurred between KoS and ToN. I swear I could read on and on about the Laurens and their mates. Very Happy

If I remember right, Aden is a highlevel telepath with a special skill in telepathic deception. He has a gradient somewhere between 8 and 9.
But his telepathic "touch" is so soft and subtle, that people most of the time don´t notice, he´s doing ANYTHING.
Which makes him extremely dangerous, because they don´t know, they´re being manipulated.
Same with Walker, from what I understood, his specialty is telepathic secrecy, like with the mental vaults, that are hidden within someones mind.

Imagine, he taught that to Aden...
Aden secretly enters someones mind, sneaking under their defenses, and creates a hidden vault with certain compulsions, like: sign that death certificate, you are given, without asking questions, and then believe the person is truly dead
He could have brought that hidden Arrow death facility under his control, without anybody being the wiser or having any clue, by controlling one or two head medics and without anybody ever suspecting anything.
I mean come on... compared to other Arrows, his abilities are laughable. A 6 or 7 something telepath, without a specialisation in mental combat, with a side ability as an M-Psy?
Totally harmless!
The only reason, they made him an Arrow, was because his parents both had been, not because, anybody thinks, he has overly useful abilities Smile

What you say makes sense Smile.
but I can't imagine them making him an Arrow just because his parents had been members of the squad...it just doesn't feel 'right'. Surely they saw something that would warrant his Arrow training, that breaking and resetting of his arm Sad for instance. if they've known about his telepathic specialty, they may have considered him too dangerous and got rid of him like Ming tried to do with Sienna, so it's obviously not that ability.

I'm thinking Aden has a different classification that 'doomed' him to Arrow training, one that is not yet mentioned. Smile

well he is an M-Psy, that can heal wounds, albeit a weak one.
But as Medic that makes him pretty valuable

Nope, in my opinion.

Grace & Cooper were meh.
The story in Walker & Lara's was meh. The info given on Walker's past with the Arrow children redeemed it a bit, though. That and I'm the lead fangirl of Team Buttered Toast (aka Team Walker) so I look at any Walker-centric story as ambrosia, lol.
Spoiler:
I also liked the hinting at Marlee & Ben being future mates

But other than that they seemed formulaic. So as a Psy-fan I enjoyed them, but wasn't impressed.

Grace and Cooper was basically.... yeah Candy.
Sweet and quick. With lots and lots of sugar.

Lara and Walker was just like the two of them are: calm, steady and satisfying.
It wasn´t throwing sparks or fireworks... but it had a wealth of information, some (if not all) of us, wanted to know and wanted to see, and that didn´t ,perhaps, fit somewhere else.

I for one, have longed for a long time, to see Judd give Walker Aden´s message and am happy as a camper, that I got to, and it didn´t happen off screen Laughing

Re: Wild Invitation: A Psy/Changeling Collection

Post by Lulu2011 on Mon Mar 11, 2013 5:29 pm

I've been starved for a Psy-Changeling fix for months now so I liked both novellas and re-read them this past weekend.

I liked Cooper/Grace but didn't love love it. It was sweet and, boy, did we get a bunch of new secondary characters introduced: Bethany, Seamus, Vitoria, Margot, Vivienne, Todd, Pia, Revel, etc. And, still Cooper's last name wasn't mentioned lol or Grace's for that matter. That drove me a little nuts. Some more stuff on mating that makes it again clear that the woman can choose to accept the mating, or not.

The Walker/Lara novella was sweet and I just like hanging out with the Laurens. Loved seeing Judd give Walker that message from Aden as Fluff said. The "psychic vault" stuff was mentioned back in KoS, was it not, when Sienna was thinking how she survived Ming? Though I liked seeing it discussed again in this novella, along with all the other things Walker did for the Arrow children. I just really like his character a lot.

I think it could be a fun twist, to throw Walker, Judd and Sienna for a loop, to have Walker's ex-co-parent (Yelene) shows up at some point. She's evil enough to work for Ming since you know Ming is going to try and get to the Laurens in some way. Maybe he'll do it through Yelene?
