I'm at about the 55% mark. It has the nice feel of a murder mystery "who dunnit" so far. Not a big story arc changing book so far. Maybe that will change. Characters are dropping right and left, that's for sure lol.

I like Mahiya very, very much. Jason, I am kind of neutral about. He hasn't done anything to endear himself to me yet. And, unfortunately, it looks like he's another H with a horrible, tortured childhood. I'm kind of tired of that.

She's my favorite heroine to date. How on earth do you say her name.

I finished late last night. Overall, I liked the book. I liked the murder mystery aspect of it very much, learning about Neha's court in depth, learning about the whole Eris/Neha/Nivriti triangle and all the murders and how Mahiya fit into the picture so it was really entertaining for me.

I also thought the book did some interesting things with the overall story arc. There is definitely a new Archangel about to emerge. I had thought it might be Illium but Nivriti is also now a possibility. The Cascade effect, with Archangels all developing new and possibly out-of-control destructive powers is also an interesting new twist.

I really liked Mahiya. I thought she was smart, courageous, charming, and frankly amazing given how she had to live her life. Major thanks go to Jessamy and her time at the Refuge for doing that for Mahiya.

I liked the Dmitri/Honor stuff as a follow up to their book. I liked how they talk about Ingrede, and that it was the way I saw it as well. Honor is Ingrede but she's also not. Dmitri is not that Dmitri that lived the quiet farmer's life 1,000 years ago. Honor is the wife/mate for the Dmitri that he became, just like Dmitri is the right husband for Honor/Ingrede after all she went through.

And Venom . . . what can I say? More Venom please!

What I didn't like that much? Jason. For me, he was probably the least interesting, least compelling Hero that Nalini has ever written. Just too distant, too disconnected and not all that interesting. I get that his brutal childhood made him that way but I'm a little tired of that backstory. It felt too much like Raphael's. Too cookie-cutter. Too many authors use that same set-up. Maybe not on a Pacific Island atoll but you know what I mean. So, I didn't really connect with him or feel a lot of uber-sexiness from him either or feel alot of smoking hot love for Mahiya until the very, very, very end.

So, I think Jason is really lucky to have found Mahiya and I'm glad he has a home but the overall love story isn't ever going to be one of my favorites of Nalini's.

I like Jason, but to be truly satisfied with their live story I'd like to see some juicy loving (not sexy) scenes that show him growing in his emotional capacity.

Loved it of course! I think the ne t Archangel might be Illium, everytime they talk about it, they say "he is close but not ready yet" so it is a male angel emerging.

I really enjoyed the story, and liked how Jason and Mahiya were together.

Was it just me or was the story quite predictable this time? I really, consciously, tried to read every word this time, so maybe that's the reason (or the fact that I wasn't on heavy pain meds while reading for once) but I knew well before Jason and Mahiya figured it out, and even before he found the feather (though that was the moment when I was pretty much like "okay, if it's someone else even NOW, then woaaa!"). I think the part where Mahiya thought about how Neha told her that she left her sister to starve to death was the heaviest clue before the feather appeared, but there were many things that seemed so.. obvious. Not that I hold it against Mahiya not to have figured it out sooner: Everyone believed her mother to be dead, so it does make sense that she doesn't even consider it until she does.

I very much LOVED how Dmitri and Honor saw eachother and their "past" relationship. And, though I'm surprised about that, I'm super excited about the next Raphael and Elena novel. O:

Not sure yet, but my favorite part about the book might have been how there were small glimpses of the other Seven, and Raphael, and the world in general. :3

I'm curious about the angel aging process. This book clearly states that maiya was consist considered an adult until she was 100. Does that mean that at 50 years she had the physical appearance and mental equivalent to say a ten year old? And how long is gestation?

I liked the book but not as much as suspected as the plot is very similar to a couple of others in this series.

Jason didn't have enough depth for me, he just wasn't angsty enough, I loved the final scences though that was so sweet.

Mahiya is one of my favourite heroines though, I like her almost as much as Faith.

I hope we get Vemon and Aodhans books soon.

Dmitri & Honors wedding is one of my favourite scenes.

I personally enjoyed this book very much. We all knew the type of guy Jason was from the start. N.S. couldn't just change him to make him more of the romantic, heroic type simply because it was his turn to have his story told. I personally liked how honest and upfront he was with Mahiya from the very beginning. I gained a new perspective from this storyline because it didn't start off with the guy immediately trying to get into the girl's pants. Although I'll admit that their intimate scenes were even more thrilling for me because, this is Jason. And he will never be a Dmitri, a Raphael or a Venom when it comes to charming women, but he's got something all his own.

I imagine we didn't get the full brunt of Jason's back story. We'd been fed the lines that his parents had the greatest angelic romance of all time. But apparently, the fact that their romance ended with an internal tragedy had been blissfully left out. When Jason mentioned that in most couples murders it was usually the partner that had done it, he'd personally known this from experience. For some reason, I thought Jason had also been abused in his youth, or perhaps I'm mixing that up with Aodhan, who we know had been tortured and broken at one point. Also, this story didn't tell us how Jason and Raphael met, and what was going down just before Jason was about to commit suicide when Raphael stopped him. That just seems like a glaring omission to me, considering this was supposed to be Jason's story.

Mahiya was a good enough heroine, although I sort of wished she was stronger. N.S. has definitely laid out a path for her to grow in strength. I guess I was longing to see a heroine that had already established power and would sort of balance out her mate instead of him being considerably stronger than her. But I believe Elena said it best near the end of the story, with Mahiya having joined the club of loving badass men. I don't have a problem with the men being badass, but I would like to see the women being badass as well!

Overall it was a good read, but I sort of wish Elena and Raphael weren't next. I was hoping for Aodhan, with him coming to New York to help take over some of Dmitri's duties, I would just love to be a fly on the wall to see him dealing with people on a regular basis. And who knows, maybe there might be a particular female that will catch his eye.

That's a good point. You're right. I don't recall anything about how Raphael and Jason met. I do remember that Jason left his isolated island at some point, made his way to the Refuge and started taking lessons from Jessamy. He didn't speak for a long time. So, I guess we're supposed to infer that he runs into Raphael after his first 100 years or so and he recruits him. Some more detail would have been nice though as you said, since it was supposed to be his book.

And, wow, do angelic parents ALL go insane at some point?

She is a badass...Mahiya may not have the muscle or power that Jason does, she is only 302! In angel terms, she is barely in her 20's!! Think about it, the minute she was considered an adult what was done to her? She was basically skinned in the most painful way possible, and then tortured from then on for the purposes of keeping her cowed and thinking herself weak. She was NEVER given the opportunity to grow into her power...but she had the will to survive and plan for her time to grow and become. That is the most badass of all the females thus far in my book!

And, also remember, that Jason thinks at one point how powerful Mahiya is and how she was going to grow into even greater powers and be quite the force to be reckoned with. After all, she is Nivriti's daughter and Neha's niece and is only 300 years old. It would be fun to see Jason and Raphael and the others of the Seven work with her to expand her abilities.

Re: Post Archangel's Storm

Post by ferdy on Wed Sep 12, 2012 12:59 am

I finished Archangel's Storm and I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I liked that Mahiya was still a good person after everything she'd been through. I was impressed that she wasn't too proud to play the weak and submissive princess in order to survive. I'm sick of the alpha heroines that refuse to bow down to anyone even if it means life or death - being subservient for a while doesn't make anyone weak, it actually shows that they're strong enough to act a certain way so they can survive.

Anyway I just didn't connect to Jason, yea he had a rubbish childhood but he was just too cold and unemotional for me to relate to him. I think that a lot of readers will like him but he just wasn't my cup of tea.

The romance was lacking for me because of Jason's personality, at the end when he said he loved Mahiya, I didn't believe it because it wasn't refelected in his thoughts.. He definitely cared about her deeply but I wasn't convinced of his love for her. I think he liked her more because she loved him unconditionally and he knew she'd never leave him.

I really liked the whole Cascade thing, and I can't wait to find out what's going on with that. I just hope it doesnt drag for several books.

I liked Venom's scenes but I was gutted that he was sleeping around, I thought he had feelings for Sorrow. Now I don't want Sorrow's HEA to be with Venom. I hate when the love interests sleep with other people once they've met and spent time with the hero/heroine. I wouldn't mind as much if they were both sleeping around but when once does and the other doesn't, it just makes me think that one of them doesn't have as strong feelings as the other has. I'm now hoping that Sorrow ends up with Aodhan.

I don't know how to believe in all the HEA's since like Lulu said
all angelic couples seem to go insane. Is that what's going to happen to Elena/Rapheal and Jason/Mahiya??
Hearing about what happened to Jason's parents whose love story was epic enough for people all over the world centuries later to have heard of it and then for them to end up like they did.. wow.. what hope have any of the new angelic couples got?

@ Patricia Lol.. yea having to raise a child for over a 100 years will cause anyone to go insane:P

When did Jason speak the actual words saying he loved her? I think I missed that. I know as he was leaving at the very end of the book, when he rose in the air and began to sing to her, Mahiya interpreted that act as his way of saying he loved her. He hadn't sung a note in hundreds of years, for him to do it now for her meant she had to be special. I understand that we were left with the feeling that he still thinks they're going to end in heartbreak. I'm guessing he doesn't think he'll go mad and kill her later, which is why he asked Raphael to release him from their pact. But to me, I'm very fine with it. Because it wouldn't be believable for Jason to suddenly do an about face and be able to say "I love you" just like that. There was no way I could see him getting to that point in the space of just one book.

In ways, Mahiya is the perfect person for him. For she knew Eris told both Nivirti and Neha that he loved them, but did he really mean it? No way. So what is the point of saying the words when there is no truth behind them? Mahiya felt that Jason showed her through his actions that he could eventually, truly love her.

ferdy, I hated Venom sleeping around too. This is one of the reasons why I prefer Psy-Changeling to this series. Other than Drew/Indigo and Riley/Mercy who knew each other for years before their relationships developed, none of the other couples would have slept around after meeting their one and only. (I guess there could be a debate about Hawke having slept with others when Sienna was underage and he was fighting his attraction to her.)

I also don't remember Jason coming out and saying "I love you". He did it with his song and Mahiya felt his love through it.

Why is everyone up in arms over Venom? It has not been stated as fact that he will end up with Sorrow, it is only assumed. Nalini even states in the last interview she did that they aren't a couple...I don't see anything wrong with what he did at all.

Concepcion 30/Lulu - I thought Jason said he loved her in the song, well that's the way I took it but I now that I read it back, it's now coming across to me that Mahiya was just interpreting his singing to her as admitting he loved her?? I think anyway.

I personally would have liked Jason's 'admitting' his love a little earlier on and not on the very last page.. I know Mahiya wasn't interested in words and Jason was too cold or whatever to fall in love but I wasn't impressed with Mahiya being so open in her feelings and Jason giving nothing away - it just felt unbalanced to me. If he couldn't lay his heart on the line after seeing Mahiya do it when she went through just as much if not worse an upbringing then that to me shows she wasn't worth all that much to him.. I expect a lot from my heroes Smile

I liked Venom and I know him and Sorrow aren't together but I hate that he's sleeping around because I think he's going to be her HEA.. from the way they've been around each other it seems like they have the start of something between them..I hope that he's not her HEA though because it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth knowing that he's been sleeping around when he already knows his heroine and when said heroine like pretty much all Singh's heroine have either no sexual experience or haven't had sex in ages.
I hope Venom and Sorrow's relationship is actually just a friendship and that they both have different HEA's.

The song was for her and Mahiya knew Jason hadn't sung in centuries.

'Her wild storm had just told her he loved her, the piercing joy of his song branding her as indelibly his."

So, I took that as pretty clear that Jason loved Mahiya. He hasn't yet said the three little words but I was happy with the ending. Overall though, Jason isn't going to be one of my favorite H's because he was so remote. Again, this is the GH series and is more UF, so we perhaps will see him thaw further over time and become more comfortable expressing himself.

Regarding Sorrow, honestly, I could see her with Aodhan. They both dislike/hate being touched so it could be an interesting pairing.

But Venom has at this moment (unlike us) that he'll ever even be with sorrow intimately much less love her....it's unreasonable to expect him to remain celebrate at this point in their non-relationship. To him she's just a broken girl he (who may still have to be ececutef if she proves dangerous) and maybe, maybe feels some unwanted attraction for.
