Re: Introduce yourselves

Post by CassB on Sun Jun 02, 2013 8:15 pm

Hello! I discovered this forum a few months ago while FREAKING out about Heart of Obsidian and the TOTAL lack of information available. Question I absolutely love indulging in speculation and theory and knowing that there are other people in the world as obsessed as I am with Nalini Singh. No one builds worlds like her (although I think Kresley Cole does great as well).

I think I discovered NS at my local library when MtP came out and then went back and read the series. She is now my favorite author. I thought I was excited for KoS, but this is a whole new level of "I need this book NOW". I also enjoy the GH, I loved Dmitiri's book, but Psy/Changeling is my favorite.

My name is Cassandra, late twenties, and I live outside Washington DC USA. Finished my M.A. in national security studies last year and while employed, I am looking for a job that 1) uses my eduation and 2) allows me to pay back my student loans. So happy to be among fellow fans! bounce

Hi everyone! I think it's great seeing how Nalini Singh's fan base seems like such a diverse group. I'm often called "syaffolee" or "sya" online. And I'm a microbiologist.

So as a huge science geek, I approach a lot of speculative fiction from the standpoint of whether the world building (especially if there's any science involved) and any portrayals of scientists are believable. There have been plenty of books that I've put down because it was obvious the author couldn't tell the difference between a virus and a bacteria or that the scientist characters were all absent-minded nitwits or evil geniuses. Fortunately, Ms. Singh mostly avoids these stereotypes.

I think I probably hold the record for the latest to the introductions party. Smile I signed up for the forum when it was first started, but I'm mostly a lurker. I first heard about the Psy/Changeling series when Slave to Sensation came out, but I didn't get around to reading it until Visions of Heat was already published. Then I managed to get a hold of an ARC of Caressed by Ice and it was that book that pretty much sealed my fate.

And like CassB, the anticipation for Heart of Obsidian is totally killing me. Probably because one of its main characters has been a favorite of mine since he was first mentioned in the series.

Oooh, so many new people! /waves

I don't know why, but waiting for Heart of Obsidian wasn't nearly as bad for me as waiting for Kiss of Snow. Maybe because I was still slightly disappointed with how TON turned out to be? Anyways, hope to see all of you here! Smile
