These KoS ARC people
Don`t these I-have-already-read-KoS-and-know-what-is-going-to-happen people just dance all over your nerves?
Maybe we should somehow make them tell everything. Yeah, there`s the idea.
God, I feel like I`m 6 again, one of my friends has a secret and doesn`t want to share.
As for a punishment for that narcissistic and completely unkamaradish behaviour, I totally hope this whole group gets to read all the other books of the series in turquoise Edwardian Script ITC 12 print three days after me.
I`m so good at this.
On second thought, I think I`m closer to 4.5. But who cares!
I JUST want to read KoS

ROFL. Yeah, when I had an ARC, I kept my mouth shut about it. But these people...grrrr! And they won't even tell me if Sascha has a boy or a girl!
Y'all know I love you....
Y'all know I love you....
Re: These KoS ARC people
LMFAOOOO! I totally agree. Being that I am 6 year old girl whilst waiting for KOS!
But....even if they don't reveal anything, they are giving away juicy bit and pieces of KOS. WHICH, is keeping me sane while I wait for this contest to be over. I. NEED. TO. WIN.

Re: These KoS ARC people
Hey New here.
Um, so, (in Germany and I think everywhere else, too) we bookbloggers give away our ARCs all the time, why don't those guys do the same? If I got it right Nalini didn't say that this is not allowed or something like that, right? :/
I seriously hope I get an ARC, but duuh, even if, I don't know if I could keep my mouth shut about it. Must be hard. :/

I think it'll be a girl, just based on Lucas's comments in past books. I'll be very surprised if it's a boy. Then again, Nalini might have been hinting that it was a girl to throw us off....

Okay...wow.
This post actually kind of offends me a little...probably because I'm one of those "KOS ARC people"...but...
Umm...my bad? The only reason I even mentioned that I got an ARC and did a review was because I wanted to share my excitement with a group of people who were anticipating this book as much as I was, and who, like me, were going around reading (and re-reading) the little snippets that Nalini put up, and looking feverishly for any type of review at all of KOS. I figured that the folks on the boards that I frequent about the Psy/Changeling series would be happy that one of them got it, and would look forward to any little snippet that I could share.
Considering Nalini expressly asked me (I don't know about the other people who got ARCs) not to share any type of major plot point if I did decide to discuss the book before the release date..."making them tell everything" isn't going to happen with me. She did say that I could hint, and discuss, which is why my first review is mostly my feelings on the book, with generalizations of what's going to happen in the book. I'm sorry that that's not enough for you, but Nalini was kind enough to send me an ARC, and I refuse to repay that kindness by breaking her trust.
Bully for you. I've never gotten an ARC before, but I figured that most people were like me, and would want to hear anything that I could spoil about KOS.
Considering that "whether Sascha has a boy or a girl" is a major spoiler that MOST people are interested in, I figured that that would be one of the "major plot points" Nalini wouldn't want me discussing.
Firstly...I highly doubt Nalini would appreciate any of the people that she gifted with an ARC of KOS passing it around so far from the release date. It's uneditted, meaning that there are still mistakes in the book that need to be ironed out, and it's meant to be a gift to certain people, NOT everyone. If she wanted everyone to have an ARC, she'd just post the whole story on her board and be done with it.
Secondly...speaking for me...it's mine. Given to me. Why should I have to "give away" something that was gifted to me? That's like asking me to share my Christmas presents with a bunch of people I only kind of know because they didn't get the same presents as me and they want them.
You're right. It IS hard. I would love to be able to shout what happens in the book from the rooftops b/c it's that awesome. I loved KOS...as I said in my review, I've been waiting for this book for, like, eons. I was extremely lucky to get an ARC, and I wanted to share it with a bunch of people who felt the exact same way I did when I found out in 2009 that I'd have to wait 2 loooooooooooooong years for Hawke's story.
I figured I'd take the edge off by offering up what I could.
If I'd known that the offering would be rebuffed...I wouldn't have done it.
Noted. I won't be answering any more questions about KOS.

Re: These KoS ARC people
I'm new here, so maybe I shouldn't say anything. But, I've often done things that I shouldn't so why should this be any different?
Ladyhawke, I wish you weren't offended....but I absolutely don't blame you. I would have been offended myself, if I had been lucky enough to receive an ARC. And, considering that Ms Singh specifically asked (at least during the contest to win one) that the receivers of the ARC post a review, you HAD to tell people that you had it. I'm glad you mentioned it, because I've never been on the goodreads website, and sincerely doubt I'd have gone onto it without seeing that you'd posted a review. I think you did an admirable job in hinting at how great the book is, without giving away too much. I'd imagine as an author, with the way some copies of books go around (and sold on ebay even), it would be hard to know who to give copies to, so that everything wouldn't be leaked WAY before the book came out. And when that happens, the publisher doesn't get the money for the book, so neither does the author. If that would happen too often, the authors would have to quit writing because there's no way they could make a living at it. Sad, but true.
So, while I am COMPLETELY jealous that you received an ARC, I appreciate you taking the time to post a review and let us know that you had, because I'm greedily reading every little bit on it that I can find!

These KoS ARC people
Since this is my post, I guess I am the one who should offer an apology to those who have found this insulting. It was just a joke, written in an attempt to show my impatience to wait another 3 months for KoS. No real hostility toward anyone.
It never crossed my mind that it could or would be treated differently. Once again, sorry.

Re: These KoS ARC people
Ladyhawke,
I just wanted to say that I loved your review & thought it was an excellent balance of giving information without giving too much/anything major away. And thanks for answering what you could. I'm one of those people who try to read whatever I can before the book is released, esp. those that I'm obsessed with. Some people like doing that and, I suppose, others don't. I wouldn't want you answering things that Nalini told you not to answer either, as that would be a betrayal of trust. And out of everyone who has gotten the ARC thus far, I was glad you got it the most because you've been on this forum, as a fan, for a very long time. I also remember your posts from the Singh fansite on goodreads. Most of the time ARCs get sent to "major blog reviewers," which while I completely understand the reasoning behind that, it's also somewhat annoying to fans who are non-bloggers (and will almost never get one).

I'll add my apology too because I thought this whole post was a tongue firmly placed in cheek we are just pouting 'cuz we weren't lucky enough to get an ARC. Speaking for myself, I'm jealous as hell but not in a real 'stop talking' you might spoil something for me. I've been eating up all the posts from the lucky few that got ARCs and they have just added to the excitement and MY impatience for the release.

Re: These KoS ARC people
cheebee wrote:Weird, the OP seemed to be an obviously humorous post.
Not really, since the offense comes from the idea that I, as one of those "KOS ARC people" should A)Not have told anyone that I got ARC b/c it "gets on peoples nerves B)I should spoil things that I have been asked not to spoil b/c these same people who are "annoyed" by the idea that I got an ARC ALSO want to know everything in the book and C)That because of both A and B...I should stop talking.
How is any of that not offensive?
It may have appeared humorous and been meant as such when the poster originally wrote it...but that's not how I took it, being that I happen to be one of those "KOS ARC people", and after giving a review of the book and answering what questions I could, being told that it's not enough and I should have given more to soothe the impatience of people in this post. Not only that, it was then stated that when another poster got an ARC of a different story, [i]they[i] didn't tell anyone...implying that I shouldn't have either b/c of all the reasons stated above.
It was then implied that I should just "give the book" away...so that other people could read it.
Soo...yeah...while the intention for the post may have been to be funny, it didn't seem to take into consideration the awkwardness of what was, essentially, being demanded. It seemed more like passive-agressive complaining over my good fortune than anything else.
As a result, I'm not talking about KOS on this site anymore...since the fact that I have one, and was willing to talk about it was driving people batty.
The book is very good, and I'm sure everyone will enjoy it.
Wait.. I wonder.. how did they have those ARCs when Nalini just sent them away? oô
As Nalini stated, she got EXTRA ARCs...implying, obviously, that she'd had others. Most likely, the ones from before were given to big name bookbloggers for their review on their sites.
As I said in MY review, when she found out she was getting extra ones, she was kind enough to contact me and ask me if I wanted one. I said yes...and it arrived, literally on the same day that she announced the contest. I can only assume mine came directly from the publisher. Soooo...I've had mine for awhile.

My gosh. It's just a joking post. A little tongue in cheek. People have apologized and said it was never an intent to offend you. You seem to be getting really irate about it which I'm sure was not the intent when you were honored with an advanced copy. Taking offense is just never that beneficial, I'd choose to just get over it and get on. Most posts had no intent to offend you and IF anyone did intend to be rude you're rewarding bad behavior with a response that probably ticlles them pink (again only IF the intent was to be ride and demanding, instead of trying to be funny). Just let it go, in the end being offended hurts the person who is offended more than anyone else.

uh didn't NS give out these copies so that people would talk about them? As far as people being driven batty, it was a joke. You're not personally driving anyone batty, The fact that the book is not out is what's driving people batty.

Re: These KoS ARC people
Hey.
So, I didn't mean to offend you (and I think I never said anything to do so, but if so, I'm really sorry!) and I am sure no one did want to be offensive.
I never said you should give the book away, I was asking if people in the US etc. don't do it, because where I live it's completely normal to do give ARCs away after you reviewed them (mostly to bookbloggers you are friends with). Maybe I do understand how you feel considering that if you hadn't posted what you did, I wouldn't have dared to mention that NS told me that she sends me one of those ARCs. (Like with you it was one of the extra ARCs and she said it should arrive next week.. guess it takes longer here ).
From where I stand it seems completely right what you do (mostly because everyone would be gratefull to get an ARC and wouldn't want to do something NS didn't want), I guess no one here wanted to offend anyone, but jeeeeez, here are some serious Hawkewhores (No offend, I'm no better.. gnn). Well, wait I wanted to say: I am sorry.
Oh and no, Nalini send them away for the reviews not for spoilers Wait, that's what she wrote me:

January 30th: I will be holding a contest, but I'll tell you what - send me your address. If my publisher sends me extra ARCs, I'll make sure you get one. Of course then you'll have to keep many secrets about Sienna and Hawke. *grin* Take care, Nalini
February 6th: Hi Patricia, You can absolutely do a review if you get an ARC. The only thing I ask is that no major spoilers be posted. I'll let you know soon as I know if I'll have any extra ARCs (might be a few weeks). Hope you're having an awesome weekend. :-) Nalini
March 2nd: Hi Patricia - look out for a package in about two weeks. :-)

Uh...the title of the post was called "These KOS ARC people"...not "KOS isn't Out and I want it to be!"...which would have implied that the reason people are batty is b/c the book is not out. Nope...if you'll read the original post, and the posts that follow, it's pretty clearly stated that the people who got the ARC and are posting that they got it is what's driving people crazy. Soooo...while it may not have been meant as an "attack"...it surely came off that way, since I happened to be one of those people.
I'm glad you found it funny...I didn't.
And you're right, Nalini did give it out so that people would discuss it...which is what I was doing, until, apparently, I was told that I should be giving out more info--spoilers that Nalini asked me not to give. So no, I won't be discussing it on this site anymore.
cheebee
I've seen the apologies, however, that doesn't change the tone of the original post or my feelings on the matter. And should I "get over it and get on"? It's easy for you to brush the whole post off, since it wasn't directed at you...you're not one of those "KOS ARC people".
Most posts had no intent to offend you and IF anyone did intend to be rude you're rewarding bad behavior with a response that probably ticlles them pink
As the apologies stated, the intent to offend me wasn't what the original post was going for so I don't think my response is "tickling" anyone pink.
Just let it go, in the end being offended hurts the person who is offended more than anyone else.
Don't worry about me...I'm fine.

Re: These KoS ARC people
Thanks for the apologies, guys. I understand that the post wasn't meant to offend...the whole post just made the idea of posting here awkward. I was excited, and I figured everyone else would be too...so it was a tad disheartening to see people upset about the fact that I got an ARC and reviewed it without giving away any spoilers.
Just as a precaution tho, I won't talk about the book on the board anymore I'll answer non-spoilery questions in PMs tho.
KOS really is great.

Re: These KoS ARC people
So, yeah, first post and all but I found this thread particularly interesting and it pulled me out of lurkerdom.
I don't have much of a stake in this conversation as I'm not an ARC person, nor am I one to ask for spoilers. I read books like I watch movies - from start to finish without having a clue what's going to happen in the end - so I don't particularly care if Ladyhawke or anybody tells me a blessed thing about KOS.
BUT...
I understand where she's coming from. When I initially read this thread, I understood that it was meant in a lighthearted, frustrated, I-can't-wait-to-read-this-book-and-I'm-kinda-jealous sort of way. Then when I came back and saw Ladyhawke's post, I also understood how she felt. What a buzzkill to her excitement to see a post like this.
What prompted me to reply was the very classy way the OP and others came out, clarified and apologized. Of course it wasn't intended to make Ladyhawke or any of the ARC people feel bad, but inadvertantly, it did and they handled it like the adults they are. I've been on other boards where conversations like this devolve into posters telling other posters how to feel or to 'get over it' or whatever, so this was truly a breath of fresh air.
So...thank you for another reminder of how cool the internet is for bringing people together to discuss what they mutually enjoy. Especially when said people are adult enough to handle their differences without imploding.
