thank you @books_rianne.
I hope, Nalini will really write a book/short-story about the Seven like Jeaniene Frost`s Night-Huntress-World...

Okay, my favorite Seven is Illium, no doubt about it Very Happy (Bluebell! *swoons*). Though it was very risky of him to angel-dust Elena's wings but I really really liked it ^_^ I want him to find some1 special, he deserves some happiness. *sniffs*

Dmitri -- I never understood why Raphael allowed him to scent-bait Elena, that for me is far worst than the angel-dust thing, because he is literally arousing her Shocked and I'm a bit scared of his over-zealots love/devotion for Raphael; nothing good will come out of that where Elena is concern. Just like Venom, he will certainly act against her if she endangered Raphael in anyway. No

Jason, I liked him just for the tattoos and his black wings, but them his fierceness and warming-caring heart (you know, the whole 15 y/o captive boy thing?) make him second on my list of favorite 7's.

Venom, I like him, too, even if he actually was about to hurt Elena (I can't remember what exactly he did =/) he is creepy enough to be cool, his attitude too. *shrugs* Okay, loyal guy.

Galen was plain weird, but he earned points for teaching Elena a few tricks and for stepping in her aide when Venom tried to mesmerized her.

Aodhan, I'm truly curious about him. I want to know his past, what lead him to shriek away from physical contact. scratch

Naasir I don't remember him much. I think he was the one who showed up at Michaela's house, right? and he spread his arms inviting him to fly her there. =/ Tiger or some other cat-like look. *shrug* don't know him, though he look menacing to Elena.

I can't wait for EKOD either! I also don't think a short story would be enough for me regarding the 7. I think I would enjoy it more if their story was within the main novels, a story in a story, the way Nalini continues letting us know what is going on with the mated pairs in her Psy/Changeling series. I enjoy seeing them that way.

Dmitri continues to scent-bait Elena because she is a born-hunter with the ability to scent vampires. Dmitri would have to control his scent continuously when around her and since he's almost around her (he is one of R's top men afterall) that could get tiring after a while. He is also involved in training Elena so it could make her a stronger fighter when she has to ignore the affects when fighting a vamp with that ability.

Venom, I love him. If you're referring to the sparring match when Elena went her version of "cold" he explained why he did that to Raphael. Elena has to be prepared for all types of attacks and as we learned later in the book that was a good thing when she was up against Neha's daughter.

Gaalan - he was one of the seven that arrived when Elena shot Raphael in the wing in AB and R wouldn't heal since E made him "a little more human" so he's not sure that he likes what she is doing to Raphael so is withholding judgement.

Aodhan - none of us know too much about him besides Nalini. I would also like to know his story and why he doesn't like to be touched.

Naasir I beleive was the angel in AP whom Ash said was scary. Ash also said that she wouldn't take any more assignments in his region because of all the suffering that he has caused. He's old and scary.

I read in her site that she is not planning on a book per Seven-member but that there would be a few centered in a one of them. But I do like your idea, a story in a story.

How's Psy/Channeling? I keep reading mixed reviews, ppl like it, ppl stop reading them because they were not smart enough to understand the complexity of it all, and then there's the animal whatever thing. I don't much like werewolves or shifters, but then I wasn't keen on angels either, and now I love them Very Happy

so, what do you think? since you like NH and GH, same as me, then would I like Psy/Ch-- series too?

Ooooooh! They weren't smart enough to get the complexity of it all! I love it!! Well I love the Psy/Changeling series and I've kept every single book from the series that I buy. I like some of the books more than others but that won't stop me from buying any new releases. I even buy the anthologies if she's got a story in it regardless if it's Psy/Changeling or Hunter's Guild. If previous characters from the series fits the current book then you will find out a little of what's happening with them. If you want to test it you should check out your local library for a copy of Slave to Sensation, it's the first book in the series, and then go from there. You can always check them out from the library and then decide if they are something you would like to own for yourself so you can reread them multiple times like we do for JF.

I think Nassir has been the most underused of the Seven. And I was actually thrilled when he was first introduced, and that scene where Elena came upon him and that random female angel was hot! But Now it doesn't seem like he will get much use in future books unless Raphael decides he doesn't need someone keeping tabs on his mother anymore. Unless of course N.S. decides to give him his own novel and he falls for one of Caliane's people or something.

Raphael allows Dimitri to bait scent Elena because tbey have a bickering almost sibling like relationship. Dimitri has messed with Elena from the start, even before Raphael too her as his. The same reason he alliws Illium his facination with Elena. She facinates them and Raphael allows the facination- to a point. Remember Illium's feather in her hair? Lol

I think all seven are, in their way, menacing and cunning. But despite that it's possible to (as a reader, I'm not sure if as a person) fall for them, because they don't do bad things simply to act out on some unpure urges. They do it to fullfill their duties, or to somehow keep living on despite the things they have suffered in the past. Also, they don't sparkle and talk about how much they regret killing that serial rapist.

But despite that.. I don't think I'd want to be with Raphael or Dmitri - I don't think I'm a person they'd even remotely like, no matter how much I can relate. (How much backbone can you have? How do Elena and Honor manage that shit? o.o) But so far, all of the guys Nalini introduced in this series were damn interesting. I actually don't even have a favorite. I like Aodhan and Bluebell very much, though. (Illium because.. really, do I even have to start? And Aodhan because I like the idea of finally seeing another person who doesn't like to be touched. It's a little weird to like someone because they share a common trait with you, though, is it? Argh. v_v)

Venom is my favourite, he makes me laugh Very Happy, then Aodhan as he seems really sweet and intriuges me and also I can identify with him.

I'm kind of curious to find ut what Naasir is too.

I like all the others but dark, twisty and broken has always attracted me. I have to admit that I'm anxious to read all their stories. Very Happy

Re: Raphaels Seven

Post by Concepcion30 on Mon Sep 10, 2012 11:50 pm

I started up the thought process about this series again and it occurred to me that there is a very good reason why each member of the Seven are male. Raphael was attracted to warrior women even before he met Elena. It could be safe to say, if there had been a woman from the past strong enough to have joined the ranks of the Seven, it would never have worked out, not with how much it seemed that Raphael liked to mix business with pleasure. I was re-reading a section of Angel's blood, where Elena was thinking that if Raphael had just waited then she would have eventually crawled all over him. But right from the get-go, he was trying to get into her pants. And even Michaela who seemed to know Raphael well enough, mentioned something about the hunter being female, thus Raphael's choice of her.

What do you guys think? Because honestly, I feel that before the series is completely over, at least one of the Seven might die. And since Raphael is committed to Elena, if there was ever an opening on the Seven, he could choose solely based on merit and not on the odd chance that he may be attracted to a potential candidate. Does anyone know if that question was ever asked before at an N.S. Q&A? Why are all the Seven men?

Why are all the Seven men? Hmm, so we readers will have lots of future powerful male lead characters to drool over? Very Happy

Actually, it is a good question and would be fun to hear Nalini's answer. We know that female angels and vampires can be just as powerful as the men (Neha, LiJuan, Michaela, etc). It could be that Raphael knew himself well enough that he would be tempted to have an affair with such a woman (though he certainly never fell for Michaela) and didn't want to have to deal with the fall-out of having a jealous female around once he decided it was over. So he decides men only so that the temptation isn't there.

As far as we know, none of the archangel's on the Cadre have paired with each other. Let's consider Raphael's parents who were an archangel couple as a super rarity. I never would have expected Raphael to fall for any of the current female archangel's out there now. But we know there are other strong female angels and vampires that work within the Tower. I refuse to believe that none of them were strong enough to be Seven material. I understand the whole, hot men club thing. But I think if there were at least one girl in the Seven, it would have made things a lot more interesting.

Re: Raphaels Seven

Well, Michaela apparently had been lover with all the other members of the Cadre with the exception of Raphael and Elijah (is that his name?). They have that conversation where they discuss not wanting to be with Michaela and how she'd been with everyone else male in the Cadre.

I agree that having a woman among the Seven could have made things interesting but I don't know if I would have liked to have read about her jealousy of Elena or Elena's jealousy of her. It would have been a bit too much soap opera for me. So, if Nalini had chosen to go with a female Seven then maybe it could have been made clear that she and Raphael weren't ever lovers and he wouldn't cross that line with one of his Seven. But, she chose not to go that route for whatever reason. It would be interesting to ask her about it.

Re: Raphaels Seven

Post by Rageane on Tue Sep 11, 2012 1:34 pm

This is an interesting thougt...and one that I had chewed on since the first book, and here is my personal perspective on this: 1. The seven are in human and military terms a Special Forces Unit, equal to a Navy SEALs unit. They each are powerful and have a specific individual job to do that makes the whole succeed. 2. It is still in this day and age not easy to get a female in a team of Special Forces, if at all, due to what these teams do and how they train to do those jobs. 3. In fiction righting it would be easy to assume that a female could stand as a seven, and make it work to a degree. Now take us, the readers who live in the real world and take this work of fiction and tear it appart to analyse and critique to our hearts content...a female seven wouldn't work for the sole reason that she is not male. Before you start getting the torches and pitchforks, let me finish.

A female is strong and powerful, absolutely no doubt!! But where is our true strength? Is it in muscle? Or is it in thought? Is it our ability to handle pain or to be able to kill the same as a male? Yes, we have all of that to too...but what do we truly have that the male doesn't? Express emotion. At the most natural core of all the CADRE females to date, all of their actions that they have taken was driven by emotion. Which is a double edged sword for the female sex...it is our GREATEST strength, but also our GREATEST weakness. If we take the emotion out of the equation what do you get? A male warrior.

I didn't want this to turn into a women vs. men debate, but men can be just as emotional as we are. The only reason women are constantly dogged with that stereotype is because of what happens once a month. And yeah, I admit, we can get a little batty during our periods. You know, this was also the sole reason many said there could never be a female president, because during that time of the month, she'd go nuts and press a button sending troops into battle and what have you.

Let me take a clip from a popular show to illustrate how they felt about the emotional debate.

Samantha: "Emotional" is just code for "I don't want to hire a woman."
Miranda: They're like that at my firm. They're afraid you're going to cry over a legal brief.
Carrie: HAVE you ever cried over a legal brief?
Miranda: Yes, but only in the privacy of my own office.
Samantha: A guy gets angry in a meeting, he's a pistol, a woman, she's emotional.

Now seriously, what drives emotion? If you look into that concept you would see that men suffer from the same issues. Granted you are arguing that they have a more steely control on their emotion. At the start of Archangel's Storm, even Jason saw that giddy expression of love on Dmitri's face and commented about this being the man that has to deal with the Cadre. But Elena said it best when she mentioned that Dmitri was only this man for Honor. Men can not be the only ones capable of stowing their emotions in order to get the job done.

And you'd mentioned that there are very few women in certain fields. That is to be expected if the last century and a half those fields had been strictly dominated by men. So much so that even the people in charge may actually believe that only men are capable of doing the job. Now back to the story, this is a paranormal world that only resembles ours. And I don't consider Raphael sexist but he was a bit of a horn dog before he met Elena. I just think it's too bad that a woman may have missed out on an opportunity to work as one of the Seven, just because he knew he wouldn't have left her alone.
