I'm very much a geek too (my eyes skipped two generations when they showed up in me), but that explanation doesn't make sense. Psy talents (what you have and how strongly you have it) have got to be the product of multiple genes. If his parents had enough of those genes between them to produce a dual cardinal then they themselves should not have been low gradient.

I have not one, but TWO multi-gene mixups, related to two different illnesses.
Genes are alot more weird than simple yes or no

So far in the books it has always been lots like Katherine explained, actually, right? I mean, as far as I can see, it doesn't matter if in REAL LIFE genes are more complicated and weirder than that, in the books, they weren't. In the novels it was all pretty simplified, probably for the sake of the readers, maybe for the sake of Nalini's sanity. (Because seriously, the worldbuilding, all the characters.. AND genes?)

Well the simplest way to understand genes is that it's a matter of which gene is dominant and which one is recessive, no, not submissive lol. Obviously, only the dominant genes get expressed, but it doesn't mean only the best, least defective gene are dominants, sometimes it's the gene for weak traits that are expressed, like shortsightedness. Le sigh.

So it doesn't matter how many good genes you got if they 're all recessive.
So the Psy do matches to see which will bring out the best of these genes.

Wasn't it interesting that two low Tp made their match together, when theoretically, finding a partner with a higher gradient would have made more sense?

Okay, physically I would have to say Sienna because fire is physical versus a TK, fire burns quicker and takes less concentration

Psychically- I would it say it would be between the Cardinals and the cells and their different ranges they have to have
