I think several movie renditions of Austen's and Dickens' books are better (in some ways) than the books, especially Dickens'. It's like they were made to be movies because of all of the description. I watched the adaptation of Nicholas Nickleby with Anne Hathaway in it and really enjoyed the sets & costumes as well as the tone of the movie.

Or maybe it's just that I'm too ADD to take in all of the info simultaneously when I read Dickens' long-winded books. I'm more of a Mark Twain girl.

Nicholas Nickleby (the adaptation you are referring to) is a lot better than the book (although the book wasn't horrible).

Yeah, I was okay with the book (I like Oliver Twist more...) but it went all over the place and took forever. I guess it's because the book was written chapter by chapter in a newspaper. Dickens: "Must write more... must have...food... on... table..."

A show about a sheirff who woke up from a coma in a world where zombies have taken over the world...a show like that with GOOD WRITING...I never thought I'd see the day.

Just so you know The Walking Dead started out as a graphic novel first...and it is still going....

Yep. I am aware it was a graphic novel. I read it first and then saw the show. Autographed too! Happiest moment.

The Japanese cartoons that make action look REALLY REALLY supernatural, or extremely exagerated...that is what Sucker Punch is...a live action Ana-me.

The Green Mile...and I think this next choice actually is on equal footing of the books, Lord of the Rings.

Rageane, I agree with you about LOTR. I think both are really well done but shine in different areas. The movies were just plain well done with awesome detail. The books were, um, overwhelming in that way. BUT, the books are epic when it comes to world building, mythology, philosophy, and languagey-nerdy goodness. *spazzes* The movies just couldn't portray that. So, both awesome in their own ways Smile [/nerding out]

Oooooh. If we're going to go in an anime direction:

Baccano! anime > Baccano! light novels.
Ouran anime > Ouran manga
Chobits anime > Chobits manga
Emma anime = Emma manga
Kimi ni Todoke = KnT manga
...and Bleach anime <<<<< Bleach manga. Times a million.

I think a lot of animes based on mangas don't live up to expectations. Animes that aren't based on anything seem to turn out better (like Cowboy Bebop, RahXephon, and Ergo Proxy.) I'm waiting to see if the anime/live action powers-that-be can pull off Usagi Drop.

I'm opinionated Laughing

Oh! You mean't anime. Yes, I love anime. Well, if its like anime than I guess I will enjoy it. =]

Ouran High School is AMAZING. Death Note was pretty genius.

I haven't seen Bleach YET, but my friend's been telling me to watch it for ages. Hm, I haven't read the manga, but majority-wise people have been telling me the anime is better. I'll have to see both.

Oh! Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of my top fav animes!

Seriously? Crap, I'm in the minority. I don't think the Bleach anime is better. The animation isn't big budget and the anime writers/directors/whatevers pigeon-holed characters. For example:

Orihime was always slated by the author to be one of two female leads: a major, complex character. They screwed themselves over because she's suddenly important and they'd been treating her as a side character/token big-boobed ditz for so many episodes, especially during filler episodes.

I don't think it's awful, per-se, but it doesn't live up to the manga. I'm such a Bleach snob, lol.

On a positive note: the opening and ending sequences are always really good.

Ouran was the first anime I really watched. I watched Toonami as a kid (I may be dating myself there pale ) so I watched some Sailor Moon, DBZ, and Tenchi, but I didn't really get them.

There is one anime show that I found very entertaining...Ranma 1/2.

It is very quirky and fun!

Ranma 1/2 had an ending?? Oh my, I missed it. I always had the feeling that the show vanished without a warning... Like: Yeah, it´s Ranma time - oh, who are these guys? That´s not what I want to see right now!! *cries*

What happend in the end?

Idk if the anime had an ending, but the manga surely did. I don't really remember it.. um, well the thing is, Ranma and -whatshername?- didn't really get together or anything. It was open-ended. And well, after 38 mangas you'd hope for something.. more. Very Happy

I didn't read all the other 37 mangas, just wanted to know how the whole thing would end. Well, if only someone had stopped me..

The Ouran manga is like that, too. The ending was disappointing. Well, to me at least.

Ouran Manga should've had the two of them MARRIED. I wanted THAT! grrrr....

Oh! Have you guys seen the trailer for ''Rise of the Planet of the Apes.'' Apparently it's like Tim Burton's 'Planet of the Apes’; except they're going to pretend it didn't happen. It'll be a new beginning. I LOVE Tim Burton's version! But I think I'm going to like this one too! Tom Felton is in it and Freida Pinto and James Franco. I'm excited.

INCLUDING ''Bad Teacher'', it just seems like a genuinely funny movie even if the ending seems predictable.

Oh and THOR! OMG. He looks so deliciously handsome. Must have him for Christmas.

Rise isn't the prequel, it's the reboot of the franchise.

Ahhh Thor....so muscular, and raw, and just...ahhh...Why NATALIE PORTMAN. WHY MUST YOU HAVE HIM!

Twixter...It is a reboot, but it is also the remake of the remake for the first...it was first called Caesar, then it was redone to Caesar: Rise of the Apes, now it is just called Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
